The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President and Deputy Chief Minister, Sunetra Pawar, emphasized the importance of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to prevent eligible voters from being excluded. She urged party members to actively participate in the revision process to ensure inclusivity in the electoral rolls. Cooperation between Block Level Agents (BLAs) and Block Level Officers (BLOs) across all 288 Assembly constituencies was also stressed to strengthen the party organization at various levels.
During a recent meeting, party leaders like Chhagan Bhujbal, Hasan Mushrif, and Dilip Walse Patil shared the initiatives taken in their constituencies to implement the SIR effectively. The meeting, attended by over 700 party members, highlighted the significance of the SIR exercise and provided guidelines for party members to follow during the process.
In response to the BJP’s initiative in West Bengal, the NCP meeting aimed to ensure a fair and accurate voter list by engaging party workers in the SIR campaign. Similarly, the Shiv Sena directed its workers to prioritize the SIR activities and report any unfair practices by BLOs. The state Chief Electoral Officer announced a door-to-door verification process for around 9.86 crore electors in Maharashtra to enhance the accuracy of the electoral database.
To maintain transparency and fairness, political parties have appointed Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to assist in the verification process. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has encouraged parties to increase BLA appointments before the campaign launch in June. Joint meetings between local poll bodies and political parties will facilitate coordination for the extensive field exercise, ensuring a systematic approach to the SIR campaign.
