The National Commission for Women (NCW) has arranged a hearing regarding the ‘Sarke Chunar’ song controversy. Actor Nora Fatehi is expected to attend the Commission on May 7 at 11:30 A.M. This hearing is part of the NCW’s investigation into allegations of vulgarity and indecent portrayal of women in the song, which has faced significant criticism.
The NCW initiated action on its own due to concerns over the song’s sexually suggestive content and its potential impact on public decency and minors. Nora Fatehi, who was previously unable to attend a hearing as she was abroad, requested a new date to present her perspective. Her appearance on May 7 is considered crucial for the Commission’s proceedings.
Actor Sanjay Dutt has already appeared before the Commission, offering a written apology and expressing regret for any unintended harm caused. Dutt has committed to supporting the education of 50 tribal girl children and ensuring future projects undergo strict legal scrutiny to portray women and children respectfully. The controversy arose post the song’s release, with critics and social media users criticizing its lyrics and choreography as inappropriate.
NCW Chairperson, Vijaya Rahatkar, has strongly emphasized that women’s dignity should not be compromised in the name of creativity. The Commission has questioned those involved in previous hearings on matters of intent, accountability, and awareness, directing them to prevent such lapses in the future. The controversy surrounding the song, which involves Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, is associated with the film ‘KD: The Devil’, prompting discussions on the responsibilities of artists and creators in producing socially responsible content.
