The National Commission for Women (NCW) has addressed the reported gang rape and trafficking of a 13-year-old girl in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district. The NCW emphasized the need for a prompt investigation, accountability, and reinforcement of child protection mechanisms. It highlighted administrative failures, policing shortcomings, and the necessity for better coordination among authorities for a thorough inquiry.
The Commission instructed authorities to expedite the filing of charges and ensure a swift trial process for the survivor. With 18 individuals already arrested in connection to the case, including hotel personnel, the NCW stressed the importance of arresting the remaining suspects promptly. It also demanded a time-bound completion of the investigation.
During a hearing attended by district officials and the Special Investigation Team (SIT), the NCW directed the District Magistrate to identify and take strict action against unregistered establishments within 15 days. It also called for accountability assessments regarding the failure of local policing mechanisms in preventing the trafficking and abuse of the minor.
Expressing concern over delays in the survivor’s presentation before the Child Welfare Committee and the circulation of related content online, the NCW urged immediate removal of such materials. It mandated strict legal actions against those involved in sharing the survivor’s information and emphasized continuous monitoring and support for her well-being.
