As Nepal prepares for parliamentary elections, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has encouraged voters to participate without fear. The elections aim to elect 275 members of the House of Representatives, with 165 seats under the first-past-the-post system and 110 through proportional representation. Following last year’s Gen Z movement, which resulted in casualties and significant property damage, the country is now focused on democratic elections.
Bhandari emphasized the completion of all necessary election preparations and urged voters to exercise their right. Voting is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday across the nation. Elections are crucial for representative governance and ensuring people’s right to choose their leaders, Bhandari stressed.
The Election Commission assured readiness for a fair and transparent electoral process. All essential election materials have been distributed to polling centers, and preparations, including station construction and personnel deployment, are finalized. Over 18.9 million registered voters, comprising nearly equal numbers of male and female voters, are eligible to participate. A significant number of candidates are contesting under both the first-past-the-post and proportional representation systems.
