The Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025 will be implemented in rural India starting Wednesday. This new framework aims to enhance rural employment, livelihood security, and sustainable village development by increasing the statutory wage employment guarantee from 100 to 125 days per eligible rural household. The Ministry of Rural Development stated that the legislation intends to create lasting rural assets and advance the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision by enhancing livelihood opportunities and rural infrastructure.
On the eve of the nationwide rollout, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized that all administrative, financial, and technical preparations have been completed for a smooth transition to the new framework. Chouhan highlighted the importance of ensuring that every eligible rural worker has employment, emphasizing the collaboration between the Centre, States, and Union Territories in preparing for the implementation of the Act. The increased guarantee of 125 days of wage employment is expected to boost rural livelihoods, foster durable community assets, and accelerate the vision of Viksit Bharat.
The Act’s enhanced employment guarantee is anticipated to offer greater income security to rural households and promote the creation of long-term durable community assets that contribute to rural development. To support the nationwide implementation, the Government has allocated Rs 95,692.31 crore to States and Union Territories. This allocation aims to ensure uninterrupted program implementation, timely wage payments, and a seamless transition to the new framework from the first day of its rollout. The Centre emphasized its commitment to preventing any disruption in implementing the new legislation at the State or Union Territory level.
Described as a significant milestone in India’s rural development journey, the implementation of the VB-G RAM G Act underscores the government’s dedication to building self-reliant, resilient, and prosperous rural communities as the foundation of Viksit Bharat @2047. The recent Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Sammelan (RGVS) saw Rural Development Ministers from all States and Union Territories expressing their readiness for operationalizing the Act from July 1. Budgetary provisions for implementing the Act have been made by 29 States and Union Territories, with 24 States already notifying the VB-G RAM G State Scheme.
The national launch of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025 is scheduled for July 2 in Mukkavaripalli village, Andhra Pradesh. Chouhan will officially inaugurate the Mission at the event.
