The new Viksit Bharat – Guaranteed Rozgar and Ajeevika (Grameen) Bill, recently passed in Parliament, has garnered support from the public in Bihar and Jharkhand. The bill, set to replace MGNREGA, aims to increase rural employment opportunities in alignment with the long-term vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Under the new law, rural households volunteering for unskilled manual labor will now be entitled to 125 days of work in a financial year, up from the previous 100 days. Many laborers in Bihar expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this initiative, stating that it will help reduce migration and enable them to earn a livelihood within their state. The bill also retains the provision of an unemployment allowance if a person seeking work remains unemployed for more than 15 days. In Jharkhand’s Palamu region, landless workers have also welcomed the new bill, emphasizing that it will prevent the need for migration to other cities and states. They appreciated the government’s efforts to benefit marginalized families and provide increased employment opportunities within their own communities.
