In his first meeting with departmental secretaries of the West Bengal government, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari emphasized the need to eliminate wasteful expenditure to ease pressure on the state’s finances. He instructed officials to avoid using the tagline “inspired by the Chief Minister” in government communications, a phrase associated with the previous administration. Adhikari urged the officials to spend public funds judiciously and prioritize essential expenses while implementing pending central schemes.
Adhikari reassured the departmental secretaries that the new government would not unduly interfere in the functioning of the state machinery, unlike its predecessor. He encouraged them to work independently for the state’s progress and development. Observers view Adhikari’s directive to remove the tagline as a step towards promoting collective leadership in governance, emphasizing a collaborative decision-making approach over unilateral actions.
Meanwhile, BJP’s West Bengal state president, Samik Bhattacharya, affirmed the party’s commitment to non-interference in the state administration. He emphasized that the government would operate independently to fulfill its pre-election promises, ensuring a distinct identity as the “West Bengal Government” rather than a “BJP government.”
