The National Investigation Agency (NIA) wrapped up a successful year in 2025, maintaining a conviction rate exceeding 92% and achieving significant victories against terrorism and organized crime. Notable accomplishments included the extradition of Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key figure in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, and the deportation of gangster Anmol Bishnoi from the United States. The agency also made progress in cases like the Pahalgam terrorist attack and the Red Fort car bomb explosion, swiftly arresting suspects and filing chargesheets.
The NIA intensified its efforts to combat Left-Wing Extremism, launching investigations against Maoist cadres and collaborating with state police and the Central Reserve Police Force. In 2025, the agency initiated investigations across various categories, leading to the arrest of 276 individuals in cases related to jihadi terror, LWE, Northeast insurgencies, Khalistani networks, gangster syndicates, and other criminal activities. Additionally, the NIA secured convictions, chargesheeted numerous individuals, and seized properties linked to fugitive terrorists and criminals.
The agency conducted nationwide operations targeting Khalistani elements, ISIS and Al-Qaeda cells, human trafficking networks, and cross-border smuggling rings. Breakthroughs were achieved in cases of targeted killings and espionage, along with successful convictions in Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) networks. To address emerging threats, the NIA enhanced its capabilities by developing specialized databases for tracking government weapons and organized crime networks, as well as providing advanced training on cryptocurrency investigations. These strategic enhancements, combined with infrastructure expansion, have significantly strengthened the agency’s ability to tackle evolving security challenges and uphold national security.
