The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charges against Priyanshu Kashyap, also known as Rakesh or Nilesh, from Bastar district, Chhattisgarh. He faces charges under various sections of the UA (P) Act for his involvement in reviving the CPI (Maoist) Northern Regional Bureau. The case involves efforts to strengthen the terror group’s presence in states like Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh.
Priyanshu, an active member of the banned CPI (Maoist) organization, held positions in Delhi and Rohtak committees. Arrested in July 2025, he was found to be engaged in recruitment, indoctrination, and mobilization for the CPI (Maoist). He was also involved in reviving front organizations and distributing banned materials for the outfit.
NIA investigations revealed that Priyanshu operated under a false identity, using covert methods for his underground activities. Possessing incriminating documents of the CPI (Maoist), he now faces charges based on this evidence.
In a separate case, the NIA has charged Bhargab Gogoi and Sumu Gogoi from Dibrugarh district, Assam, in connection with the Assam Independence Day IED seizure case of 2024. The duo was arrested in June 2025 and now face charges under various sections of the IPC, Explosive Substance Act, and UA(P) Act.
