At least nine civilians were reportedly forcibly disappeared by Pakistani forces in Balochistan, according to a human rights organization. The Baloch National Movement’s Human Rights Department condemned the abduction of two individuals, including a 24-year-old farmer and a student, from the Khuzdar district. These individuals were allegedly taken by personnel of the Counter Terrorism Department on April 30.
The whereabouts of the abducted individuals, including a farmer named Qadeer Majeed and a student named Irshad Baloch, remain unknown, causing distress to their families. The rights body highlighted that seven other civilians were also forcibly disappeared by Pakistani forces between April 16 and 17. These victims were identified as individuals from different age groups and professions, taken allegedly by Pakistan’s Frontier Corps and CTD during separate operations.
The human rights organization called on Pakistani authorities to reveal the fate and location of the disappeared individuals, ensure their safe return, and hold those responsible accountable. Enforced disappearances are considered a serious violation of human rights and must be stopped immediately. Additionally, the Human Rights Council of Balochistan expressed concern over the situation in the region, citing cases of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings allegedly carried out by Pakistani forces.
