At least nine individuals lost their lives, and many others were injured in a tragic incident involving a State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) bus traveling from Tiruchy to Chennai. The accident occurred near Ezhuthur in Cuddalore district, resulting in a major disruption of traffic on the Chennai-Tiruchy National Highway. The bus experienced a burst front tire in the Ezhuthur area, leading to the driver losing control of the vehicle.
The SETC bus collided with the central median, broke through the barrier, and then veered into the opposite carriageway, where it crashed head-on into two cars approaching from the other direction. The collision was severe, with seven of the nine fatalities being passengers in the two cars, which were severely damaged beyond recognition. Additional individuals sustained serious injuries and were promptly taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Among the victims were four men, four women, and one child, with four others in critical condition receiving intensive medical care. The impact of the accident delayed the identification of some victims initially. The incident highlights the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and adherence to road safety regulations, as authorities investigate the precise cause of the tragedy.
