The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has called on IT and IT-enabled services companies to promote work from home to save fuel and reduce unnecessary travel. NITES emphasized that remote work could aid in national fuel conservation efforts and ease pressure on urban infrastructure. The organization highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plea for adopting remote work, virtual meetings, and reduced travel as a collective responsibility amidst global uncertainties.
NITES pointed out that the IT and ITES sector successfully implemented remote working during the Covid-19 pandemic without affecting productivity. Harpreet Singh Saluja, President of NITES, stated that the sector possesses the necessary infrastructure and capabilities to support national priorities through remote work. The association mentioned that technology firms managed to serve global clients efficiently while operating remotely during the pandemic.
According to NITES, the insistence on daily commuting for employees despite digital alternatives strains fuel consumption, traffic congestion, public transport systems, and urban infrastructure. The organization stressed that companies in the IT sector invested significantly in remote infrastructure, cybersecurity, and digital tools during the pandemic to ensure seamless operations under remote working conditions.
