Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, revealed that almost 80% of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway has been finished, costing Rs 1.10 lakh crore, with the remaining work advancing swiftly. Commuters are expected to cover the distance from Delhi to Mumbai’s Nariman Point and Jawaharlal Nehru Port in just 12 hours within the next two years.
Gadkari, speaking at a public event near the Dara Tunnel in Kota after surveying a 90-km stretch of the expressway, emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering on promises. He highlighted the broader impact of the expressway, stating it would not only be a transportation route but also a catalyst for economic growth.
The Union Minister mentioned that the expressway’s development would attract various industries, logistics parks, educational institutions, medical colleges, and agro-based enterprises, fostering employment opportunities and driving regional development. He assured Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma of ample funds for National Highway projects and even humorously mentioned sanctioning projects worth billions if time allowed.
Gadkari reviewed construction progress on specific sections of the expressway and stressed the importance of road safety, directing officials to enhance patrolling and prevent haphazard parking. Additionally, he announced two significant infrastructure projects for the Kota region, aiming to improve connectivity and reduce travel time.
