The Noida Authority has taken action following the death of a sanitation worker during sewer cleaning in Sector-93 (B). The incident occurred on July 14 when the worker, identified as Shiva, died due to toxic gases while clearing the sewerage. Steps are being taken to register a criminal case against the contractor and initiate disciplinary action against the officials involved.
The Authority has terminated the services of the Junior Engineer (JE) and is in the process of blacklisting the contractor for bypassing stipulated guidelines in sewerage cleaning. The tragic incident has raised questions about the safety measures in place during sewer cleaning operations.
Cleaning work on a deep sewer line was ongoing when the incident took place at the T-point near Sector-93B and Gejha village. Despite the worker, Shiva, wearing safety equipment, he faced difficulties inside the manhole. The Authority mentioned that efforts to rescue him were complicated by entanglement in wires within the manhole.
The contractor responsible for sewer cleaning, M/s Shivaji Constructions Company, is facing the initiation of an FIR and potential blacklisting by the Authority. Additionally, the services of the Junior Engineer and disciplinary actions against other officials are being pursued. The tragic death of the sanitation worker has highlighted concerns about safety protocols in sewer cleaning activities.
