A criminal with a Rs 1 lakh reward on his head was shot dead in a police encounter in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The man, known as Sanjay alias Sanjeev, was the main suspect in the murder of builder Sandeep Singh in Lucknow’s PGI area. Sanjeev, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar district, was involved in various serious criminal cases, including multiple murders across different districts.
Police had been on the lookout for Sanjeev for weeks, especially regarding the recent builder murder case in Lucknow. The encounter occurred on Indira Canal Road in Lucknow when the police tried to arrest Sanjeev. Instead of surrendering, he fired at the police, leading to a self-defence response from the officers. Sanjeev sustained bullet injuries and was pronounced dead at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Lucknow.
Sanjeev’s involvement in the murder of Sandeep Singh had sparked attention in Uttar Pradesh due to alleged connections to an old rivalry and property dispute. The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force revealed that the murder resulted from a longstanding enmity and a land dispute, with a contract worth Rs 5 lakh for the builder’s elimination. Despite the arrest of other suspects related to the murder conspiracy, Sanjeev, identified as the main culprit, had evaded capture until the fatal encounter.
