In Odisha, the Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Suresh Pujari, assured that the state is fully equipped to handle any potential flood situation due to the increasing water levels in the Baitarani River caused by continuous rainfall. The minister, along with senior officials, reviewed various aspects like water levels, evacuation plans, shelter arrangements, and relief material availability.
Following a meeting at the Office of the Special Relief Commissioner, the minister emphasized the need for immediate support to anyone requiring evacuation or assistance. Despite recent heavy rainfall affecting parts of Odisha, major rivers like Mahanadi, Devi, Jalaka, and others are currently below the danger level, ensuring relative stability.
While the Baitarani River’s water level has slightly risen in certain areas, it remains below the danger mark. The government, in coordination with district administrations, is closely monitoring the situation to prevent any loss of life or property damage. Reports of crop damage have prompted swift action, with instructions issued for prompt assessment and compensation to affected farmers.
Preparations for potential post-flood incidents, such as snakebites, are underway with preventive measures and sufficient antivenom stocks in hospitals. After the Rath Yatra festival, a comprehensive review meeting involving all district administrations will be held to strategize disaster management in light of ongoing rainfall. Adequate relief materials and response teams are on standby, with early warning messages being disseminated to vulnerable residents.
