The Collector of Odisha’s Koraput district has lifted the one-day ban on the sale of non-vegetarian food items imposed for the 77th Republic Day celebrations on January 26. The earlier order, suggested by the District Level Republic Day Preparatory Committee, was revoked by the Collector, Manoj Satyawan Mahajan, after careful consideration. The ban on items like meat, chicken, fish, and eggs has been lifted with immediate effect.
In response to the initial directive issued on January 23, Tahasildars, Block Development Officers (BDOs), and other Executive Officers were instructed to prohibit the sale of non-vegetarian food items on Republic Day. The Collector had urged prompt action in implementing the ban, which received varied reactions from the public. Some individuals raised concerns over the ban, emphasizing that Republic Day is a national celebration, not a religious event.
