The Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) has raised milk prices citing higher processing and transportation expenses. The revised rates, effective from Sunday, include an increase in toned milk price from Rs 50 to Rs 54 per litre and premium milk from Rs 54 to Rs 58 per litre. Gold premium milk now costs Rs 60 per litre, up from Rs 56, and gold premium plus is priced at Rs 64 per litre, previously Rs 60.
State Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallik emphasized the necessity of the hike due to long-standing unchanged prices despite escalating input costs. This decision aims to offer better procurement prices for farmers, ensuring improved returns for milk producers. OMFED also raised the procurement price of cow milk by Rs 1 per litre and increased buffalo milk suppliers’ rates by Rs 1.60 per litre to support farmers.
Despite the price adjustment, Mallik assured consumers that OMFED’s prices remain competitive in the market while maintaining quality standards. Established in 1980 and headquartered in Bhubaneswar, the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) is the primary dairy cooperative in the state. OMFED plays a crucial role in milk procurement, processing, and marketing, focusing on enhancing rural livelihoods and delivering quality dairy products.
