One person died, and two others were injured in a steam boiler explosion at a cold storage unit in the fruit mandi area of Aglar in south Kashmir’s Shopian district. The incident occurred during repair work at the Zum Zum cold store when a steamer being fixed exploded. The injured individuals were taken to the District Hospital Shopian for treatment, where one of them passed away, while the other two are receiving medical care.
The deceased engineer was identified as Saurabh Singh, and the injured individuals were named Dileep Kumar and Ram Kumar, all residents of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. A steamer in such facilities refers to a steam-generating system or boiler used for heating, pressure control, or maintenance operations, operating under high pressure and temperature, posing risks if not handled properly.
These employees were reportedly conducting repairs at the cold storage facility when the explosion occurred. The cause of the blast is under investigation, with further details awaited. Cold storage units are crucial for preserving perishable goods like fruits and vegetables by extending shelf life and slowing spoilage, aiding in maintaining a stable fruit supply in national markets.
