Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, V.D. Satheesan, criticized senior CPI(M) leader A.K. Balan for suggesting that Jamaat-e-Islami could control the Home Department if the UDF wins. Satheesan accused Balan of promoting communal polarization through such remarks, likening it to strategies used by the Sangh Parivar.
Satheesan highlighted the danger of such divisive narratives and drew parallels to past campaigns by the BJP. He questioned the basis of Balan’s claim, noting Jamaat-e-Islami’s historical support for the Left without controlling the Home Department. Satheesan criticized the CPI(M) for adopting tactics that could fuel communal tensions.
The Opposition leader also raised concerns about internal contradictions within the Left camp, referencing recent statements by other leaders. He expressed confidence in Kerala’s electorate to reject what he termed a hate-driven campaign by CPI(M) leaders. Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami leaders called for a correction of such statements, emphasizing the potential harm to the state’s well-being.
