Opposition leaders from the INDIA bloc criticized the Bihar government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after former Chief Minister Rabri Devi returned all security personnel from her official residence. This action followed the government’s decision to withdraw the Z+ security cover provided to Rabri Devi and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav. The BJP defended the decision, stating that security cover should not be seen as a “status symbol.”
Janshakti Janta Dal President Tej Pratap Yadav refuted claims that Rabri Devi voluntarily surrendered her security. He clarified that the security personnel were removed due to pressure exerted on them. RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha strongly criticized the Bihar government, labeling the use of security as a tool of “political vendetta” against the former Chief Ministers.
Purnea MP Pappu Yadav accused the BJP government in Bihar of trying to divert attention from real issues and urged against debating such matters. Congress leader Arif Naseem Khan expressed concern over the suppression of Opposition leaders by the BJP, stating that it undermines democracy. Union Minister Giriraj Singh emphasized the importance of adhering to government security rules and criteria for providing security to individuals.
Bihar BJP President Sanjay Saraogi mentioned that the government is prepared to offer security to Rabri Devi and Lalu Prasad Yadav as former Chief Ministers, even if they choose not to accept it. Rashtriya Lok Morcha Chief Upendra Kushwaha suggested that the security surrender by Rabri Devi and Lalu Prasad Yadav was a reaction to necessary government actions. JD-U spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad emphasized the importance of respecting the government’s process for determining security protection for politicians.
