The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has accused the Odisha School & Mass Education Department of irregularities, corruption, and mistreatment of teachers during recent promotion and transfer processes. The BJD spokesperson criticized the promotion of Junior Secondary Education Service (JR SES) teachers to Senior Secondary Education Service (SR SES), alleging violations of merit and the government’s gradation list. Concerns were raised over the alleged promotion of junior teachers through corrupt means, while deserving senior teachers were reportedly overlooked.
Expressing dismay over the situation, the BJD highlighted instances where female teachers were transferred to distant locations without considering seniority or family responsibilities, while male teachers linked to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were reportedly favored with nearby postings. The party claimed these actions contradicted the government’s transfer policy and principles of fairness. The spokesperson criticized the promotion process, stating it had caused discontent among teachers in Odisha.
The BJD demanded the cancellation of the current promotion list, advocating for a transparent, merit-based promotion process aligned with the government’s gradation list and seniority norms. Additionally, they called for a fair review of teachers who felt victimized. The party also urged an investigation into corruption allegations, seeking the suspension of the current Director of the School & Mass Education Department pending an impartial inquiry.
