The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) opposition party has filed a police complaint alleging the circulation of an AI-generated deepfake video aimed at tarnishing the image of party president Naveen Patnaik. The complaint, lodged by leaders of the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD), demands legal action against the creator of the video and those involved in its dissemination.
The video, uploaded on July 9 via an Instagram page named “socialtalk111” allegedly operated by Preeti Prakash Nayak, contained AI-generated deepfake content, abusive language, and defamatory remarks targeting Naveen Patnaik and former 5T Chairman V.K. Pandian. The BJD claims the video was designed to mislead the public and harm the reputation of its leaders.
Accusing Nayak of facing previous departmental proceedings in a defamation case, the BJD alleges that he habitually engages in objectionable social media activities. The party also claims that such actions are being encouraged by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a time when the state government is under scrutiny for its performance.
Referring to a recent arrest related to a similar incident involving Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the BJD is calling for immediate and strict action against the accused in this case. They urge the police to register a case, seize and examine Nayak’s Instagram account, and remove the deepfake video from social media platforms. Additionally, the party requests identification and action against all individuals or accounts involved in creating or sharing the content.
