The PM Muft Bijli Yojana, launched in 2024, aims to install rooftop solar systems in one crore households to generate renewable electricity. This could potentially reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 720 million tonnes over the 25-year lifespan of the systems. The top five states in implementation by the end of 2025 are Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Rajasthan.
Replying to a query, the minister stated that the country has installed 266.78 GW of non-fossil fuel source-based electricity capacity as of December 31, 2025. This includes renewable energy sources like solar power, wind power, bioenergy, and nuclear power. Additionally, the government is working on the National Green Hydrogen Mission to establish India as a global hub for green hydrogen production and usage.
