More than 5.11 lakh unusable items have been found in Gujarat’s government healthcare system during the initial five days of the state-wide ‘Namo Swachhata Abhiyan’. Out of these, over 46,000 items have already been disposed of on-site, freeing up more than 1,500 rooms for future use, as per the state Health Department.
On the fifth day of the campaign, 58,594 unusable items were detected in over 12,000 government health facilities, ranging from sub-centres to medical colleges and hospitals. Of these, 14,390 items were disposed of at their respective locations, creating space for 16 additional rooms within hospital premises for future patient-related use.
The remaining unusable materials are currently being processed for disposal following prescribed procedures. Simultaneously, repair work is ongoing across various health facilities in the state.
Around 684 items, including wooden and metal furniture, ambulances, government vehicles, electronic and IT equipment, and medical devices, were repaired on the fifth day. Over the five-day period, approximately 10,165 such assets have been restored for use.
The ‘Namo Swachhata Abhiyan’ campaign, spearheaded by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, aims to enhance cleanliness and fortify healthcare infrastructure in all government healthcare institutions across the state.
