More than 69 lakh farmer families in Gujarat have received over Rs 23,083 crore in direct financial assistance through the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. This assistance has been provided across 22 instalments, with funds transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts using the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The latest instalment, the 22nd one, saw more than 50.54 lakh farmer families in the state receiving assistance totaling over Rs 1,010 crore.
When the scheme was initially launched, more than 28.65 lakh farmers in Gujarat received Rs 572.21 crore in the first instalment. These figures were highlighted as Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed 12 years in public office at the national level. Nationally, the PM-KISAN scheme has disbursed more than Rs 4.27 lakh crore to over 11 crore farmers, offering income support to agricultural households.
Gujarat Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani emphasized that the scheme has acted as an economic safety net for farmers, especially small and marginal landholders. He mentioned that the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana has provided economic security to farmers, enabling them to access financial support for essential agricultural inputs like seeds and fertilisers.
Under the scheme, eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 each. This financial aid is aimed at helping farmers cover recurring agricultural expenses, particularly during sowing seasons when costs for seeds, fertilisers, and pesticides rise.
