A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Group Captain was fatally shot by unknown gunmen near Shaheen Chowk in Islamabad. The incident occurred when the officer, Group Captain Asim Tariq, intervened in an attempt to help a woman who was being forced into a vehicle by an unidentified man. Despite his efforts, the young man shot Group Captain Tariq, resulting in his death at the scene.
The woman, identified as Nimra, was taken into police custody for questioning following the shooting. Meanwhile, the perpetrators managed to escape the scene in their vehicle. The body of Group Captain Tariq was transferred to the Pakistan Air Force Hospital Unit II for further procedures and investigations.
In a separate incident on Friday, armed assailants attacked a police patrol in Mohmand district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, resulting in the deaths of two Pakistani Police personnel, including an additional station house officer (SHO). The attack took place near the Warsak Lift Canal in the Machni area, where the police patrol was ambushed by armed assailants. The assailants targeted the additional SHO and an elite force constable, leading to their deaths, while the driver of the vehicle sustained injuries and was transported to Peshawar for medical treatment.
The police attributed the attack to Fitna al Khawarij terrorists, a term used in Pakistan to refer to terrorists associated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Following the incident, police, district administration officials, and rescue teams swiftly responded to the scene and initiated a rescue operation. These attacks on law enforcement personnel have been on the rise in Pakistan, particularly in the border regions of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
