The Pakistan Cricket team is set to play against New Zealand in the opening match of the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8s round at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday. This encounter marks the 50th T20I match between Pakistan and New Zealand, with both teams having a closely contested history in the shortest format. Pakistan has won 24 out of the 49 matches played between the two sides, while New Zealand has emerged victorious in 23 matches, with two ending in a tie.

In terms of T20 World Cup history, Pakistan holds the edge over New Zealand. The two teams have met seven times in the World Cup, with Pakistan winning five of those clashes, while New Zealand has secured victory in two encounters. The last T20 match between New Zealand and Pakistan took place in March last year, where New Zealand won a three-match series against the 2009 T20 World Cup champions with a 2-1 scoreline.
