Pakistan’s Olympic javelin throw champion, Arshad Nadeem, is set to receive financial support for his sports complex to nurture future champions, with the government allocating 50 million PKR (180k US dollars). Nadeem made headlines by clinching the gold medal at the Paris Olympics two years ago, setting a new Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 meters.
Expressing delight at the funding, Nadeem emphasized the importance of top-notch facilities for athletes. The sports complex, named Arshad Nadeem-Shahbaz Sharif High Performance Sports Academy, is estimated to cost around 2.85 billion PKR and aims to train elite athletes in various disciplines, including javelin, squash, swimming, shooting, and wrestling.
Nadeem highlighted the necessity of providing world-class facilities to athletes to compete with countries like India, China, and Japan in producing champions. Additionally, the Punjab government is constructing a sports stadium in Nadeem’s hometown to further support javelin players and enhance sporting infrastructure.
After recovering from a knee injury, Nadeem is gearing up for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Asian Games in Hangzhou. Despite his previous withdrawal due to injury, Nadeem is determined to defend his title and continue his winning streak in international competitions.
