The uncertainty over Pakistan’s involvement in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 has triggered a wave of online mockery, with Iceland and Uganda Cricket taking a humorous stance on potentially replacing Pakistan. This situation arose after PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed doubts about the team’s participation, showing support for Bangladesh, who got replaced by Scotland in the tournament lineup.
Bangladesh had requested the ICC to move their matches from India to Sri Lanka due to security concerns, but the request was denied, leading to Bangladesh’s exclusion from the competition. Amid this uncertainty, Iceland Cricket humorously hinted at stepping in if Pakistan pulls out of the tournament, albeit later announcing their withdrawal due to logistical challenges in getting to Colombo on time.
Uganda Cricket also joined the playful exchange, expressing readiness to fill any vacant T20 World Cup spot. Despite Pakistan naming its squad for the tournament, their participation remains up in the air. PCB chief Naqvi has met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to deliberate on the matter, with a final decision anticipated by Friday or Monday.
