Kerala’s Palakkad Assembly constituency is set for an interesting electoral showdown with three diverse candidates vying for victory. The contenders include actor Ramesh Pisharody from the Congress, BJP leader Shobha Surendran, and CPI-M’s surprise candidate, hotelier N.M.R. Razak, known for both his biryani and business acumen.
Shobha Surendran is the only candidate with significant political experience among the trio, having secured the second position in the 2016 Assembly polls behind Congress’s Shafi Parambil. Parambil, a three-time winner from the constituency, later won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, a by-election following his victory saw Youth Congress President Rahul Mammkootathil winning with a record margin but facing a short-lived tenure due to allegations leading to his expulsion.
Ramesh Pisharody, a popular figure known for his entertainment skills, has stepped in as the Congress’s fresh face despite lacking political background. On the other hand, CPI-M has introduced Razak, renowned for his biryani, adding a unique local touch to the electoral race. As Palakkad prepares for the polls, the choice between experience, humor, and culinary appeal remains uncertain, making the outcome of this high-stakes contest unpredictable.
