A parallel government has taken control of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region as the Pakistan security forces face challenges in containing the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The TTP has gained significant ground amid the ongoing battles with other militant groups in the area. Reports indicate that TTP members are conducting searches and checks in various locations, overshadowing the local police.
The TTP’s influence in the Khyber district has grown substantially, with the group effectively seizing control of the security apparatus. Despite not directly involving in governance, the TTP has marginalized the local police, rendering them ineffective. To sustain its operations, the TTP has resorted to collecting donations from the populace.
In a bid to establish dominance, the TTP aims to solidify its authority over the region, signaling a shift in power dynamics. The lack of resistance from both the local security forces and the public has emboldened the TTP’s brazen display of control in the Bara region. The Pakistani administration’s passive response has further enabled the TTP’s ascendancy.
Authorities anticipate a potential escalation in the region, as the Pakistan establishment grapples with its engagements elsewhere. Concerns loom over the looming threat posed by the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) and Lashkar-e-Tayiba, which are speculated to be mobilized against the TTP in the near future.
