Skipper Pat Cummins recognized the difficulty posed by teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a five-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals. Cummins, who conceded only 27 runs in his four overs, highlighted that his strategy focused on minimizing Sooryavanshi’s impact by keeping him away from strike as much as possible. The young talent, aged 15, showcased his prowess by scoring a remarkable 103 off 37 balls, comprising 12 sixes and five fours, propelling Rajasthan Royals to a formidable 228/6 after opting to bat first.
Despite Sooryavanshi’s explosive innings, Sunrisers Hyderabad effectively controlled the run rate in the death overs, restricting Rajasthan Royals from adding crucial extra runs. In pursuit of 229, SRH displayed aggressive batting despite an early setback. Ishan Kishan spearheaded the counterattack with a rapid 74 off 31 balls, while Abhishek Sharma contributed 57 off 29 deliveries. Their pivotal 132-run partnership tilted the game in favor of SRH.
Kishan echoed Cummins’ sentiments regarding the escalating challenges for bowlers in the IPL and humorously mentioned the impact of the toss on the game. Reflecting on the toss factor, Kishan humorously remarked on the change in luck with Cummins taking over the captaincy, leading SRH to their first toss win in the seventh game. Kishan, who captained SRH in the initial seven matches, expressed his delight at finally clinching the toss under Cummins’ captaincy, which set the tone for their victory against RR.
