The Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit refuted a viral claim circulating on social media alleging that India disclosed the location of an Iranian naval ship to Israel. The claim, based on a manipulated video of Indian Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi, was initially propagated by Pakistani accounts and later amplified by a Turkish newspaper. The Fact Check unit clarified that this claim was entirely false and misleading.
In response to the misinformation, the government’s fact-checking unit emphasized that the viral claim was fake and that General Upendra Dwivedi had not made any such statement. Citizens were urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious or misleading content they encounter. The agency also highlighted the nature of the misinformation campaign, revealing that digitally altered videos were being used to falsely attribute statements to the Indian Army Chief.
PIB Fact Check further shared the original, unedited clip of General Dwivedi’s remarks to counter the manipulated video circulating online. The video was extracted from the Raisina Dialogue 2026, where General Dwivedi discussed lessons from Operation Sindoor and the changing landscape of modern warfare, stressing India’s firm stance against terrorism and the importance of enhanced coordination among defense services and agencies.
