Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu for causing delays in the implementation of crucial projects approved by the Centre. He expressed concerns that such delays not only undermine the credibility of the Union government but also impede the state’s progress. Speaking at a large campaign rally of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Panchapur, Tiruchirappalli district, PM Modi emphasized the necessity of a robust NDA alliance to drive Tamil Nadu’s development and ensure the smooth delivery of central schemes to the people.

PM Modi alleged that since assuming power in 2021, the DMK government led by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has failed to fulfill its obligations and has slowed down the progress of various significant development endeavors. He pointed out that initiatives like housing for rural poor and major infrastructure projects, including proposed high-speed rail connectivity between Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad, were facing inefficiencies due to the state government’s lack of cooperation. The Prime Minister accused the DMK government of intentionally stalling the schemes to avoid acknowledging the central government’s contributions, which ultimately harms the residents of Tamil Nadu.

Highlighting the critical role of agriculture in the state, PM Modi underscored the importance of farmers in the Cauvery delta region for Tamil Nadu’s food security. However, he criticized the DMK government for not increasing the paddy support price and failing to develop adequate grain storage facilities as promised. PM Modi questioned the whereabouts of the storage facilities pledged to farmers by the DMK, stating that farmers are still awaiting answers. He further accused the state government of prioritizing political interests over public welfare and shielding individuals responsible for administrative lapses.

The Prime Minister also raised concerns about alleged corruption within the government, citing a minister from Tiruchirappalli’s involvement in a job-for-money scandal that adversely affected the aspirations of youth from economically disadvantaged backgrounds seeking employment opportunities. PM Modi highlighted a rise in crimes against women under the DMK administration, expressing dismay over the deteriorating law and order situation. He assured that the NDA alliance would strive to create a safer environment where criminals, not citizens, would fear the consequences of their actions. Additionally, PM Modi mentioned that the Union government had extended loans amounting to Rs 16 lakh crore to Tamil Nadu, emphasizing the need for enhanced coordination between the Centre and the state to unlock Tamil Nadu’s full developmental potential.
