Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed plans for a groundbreaking underwater tunnel project beneath the Brahmaputra River near Gohpur during a public rally in Assam’s Biswanath district. The estimated Rs 18,500 crore initiative aims to revolutionize connectivity in the Northeast by significantly reducing travel distances between Gohpur and Numaligarh. PM Modi emphasized that besides enhancing transportation, the project will create numerous job opportunities for the people of Assam.
Highlighting the strategic significance of the project, PM Modi expressed confidence that it would usher in a new era of connectivity in the region, offering economic prospects for the youth. He also took a subtle dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, suggesting a pattern of electoral defeats for the opposition while reaffirming the BJP’s strong public backing.
In his address, PM Modi underscored the government’s commitment to welfare schemes, citing the provision of over 22 lakh pucca houses to Assam families, with an additional 15 lakh households set to benefit in the future. He stressed the efficacy of a “double-engine government” in ensuring swift and efficient scheme implementation.
PM Modi further outlined plans for women’s empowerment, noting that around three lakh women in Assam have become “Lakhpati Baideo,” with the BJP aiming to increase this number to 40 lakh. He also announced the expansion of the Orunodoi scheme to encompass more female beneficiaries, a significant electoral pledge.
Discussing agricultural initiatives, PM Modi highlighted the positive impact of the PM-Kisan scheme, benefiting nearly 20 lakh farmers. He also addressed Assam’s flood issues, revealing an investment of Rs 18,000 crore to mitigate flooding, including measures to deepen the Subansiri River.
Emphasizing infrastructure advancements, PM Modi mentioned the completion of five bridges over the Brahmaputra in the past decade, with ongoing work on five additional bridges. He also pointed out enhancements in healthcare and education, with medical college numbers rising from six to 14, and ten more in progress.
Accusing the Congress of neglecting Assam’s potential through appeasement politics, PM Modi reiterated the BJP’s commitment to safeguarding indigenous communities, promoting development, and preserving the state’s heritage.
