Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed concerns raised by the Trinamool Congress regarding potential voting rights loss for the Matua community in West Bengal due to the Special Intensive Revision exercise. He emphasized the BJP’s commitment to safeguarding the voting rights of the Matuas and other religious refugees in the state, ensuring their long-term development. Modi assured the Matua community and refugees facing religious oppression that their interests would be safeguarded, and citizenship would be granted under the Citizenship Amendment Act if the BJP assumes power in West Bengal.
Matuas, hailing from disadvantaged backgrounds in Bangladesh, seek refuge in West Bengal, particularly in Nadia and North 24 Parganas districts. The BJP has gained significant support in Matua-dominated areas of West Bengal since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, consolidating its presence.
During a rally in Malda district, PM Modi criticized the Trinamool Congress for allegedly promoting illegal infiltration from Bangladesh. He highlighted infiltration as a major challenge faced by West Bengal and condemned the Trinamool Congress for neglecting this issue. Modi underscored the need to address infiltration, job scarcity, oppression of women, and the rise of violence in the state, emphasizing the BJP’s stance against infiltrators and commitment to restoring demographic balance and peace.
