Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in Seychelles’ National Day celebrations, recognizing the nation’s 50-year journey. He emphasized India’s commitment to aiding Seychelles in its development. The event marked the Golden Jubilee of Seychelles’ Independence, with PM Modi attending as the Guest of Honour during his State visit to the island.
The celebration included Seychelles’ soldiers parachuting with national flags, amid enthusiastic cheers, commemorating the nation’s independence milestone. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam were also in attendance. PM Modi, invited by Seychelles President Patrick Herminie, received the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ award for environmental leadership.
India and Seychelles share a deep-rooted partnership based on historical, cultural, and people-to-people connections. The visit aimed to strengthen this enduring friendship and enhance bilateral ties across various sectors. Seychelles holds strategic importance in India’s Vision ‘MAHASAGAR’ and commitment to the Global South, reflecting shared values and mutual growth.
