Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a video conference with Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors to assess India’s readiness concerning the evolving situation in West Asia and its potential impact on the nation’s economy, energy security, and supply chains. Emphasizing the importance of unity as “Team India,” the Prime Minister highlighted key priorities such as maintaining economic stability, protecting citizens’ interests, ensuring energy security, and strengthening industry and supply chains.

During the meeting, PM Modi urged states to ensure the smooth operation of supply chains while cracking down on hoarding and profiteering. He stressed the necessity of proactive planning in the agriculture sector, especially in monitoring fertilizer storage and distribution to avoid disruptions during the upcoming Kharif season. Additionally, he called for effective coordination mechanisms at all governance levels to facilitate swift responses to changing circumstances.

Special focus was placed on border and coastal states to tackle challenges related to shipping, essential supplies, and maritime operations. PM Modi cautioned against misinformation and rumors, underscoring the need for accurate and credible information dissemination to uphold public confidence. He encouraged states to activate control rooms, helplines, and nodal officers for timely communication and support, particularly for individuals with ties to West Asia.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, present at the meeting, highlighted proactive government measures such as reducing excise duty on petrol and diesel and ensuring timely LPG availability. Cabinet Secretary T.V. Somanathan provided a detailed situation assessment and recommended steps for states to enhance preparedness. Senior leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were also in attendance.

Chief Ministers commended the Centre’s initiatives under PM Modi’s guidance, including diplomatic efforts to safeguard Indian citizens abroad. They appreciated the reduction in fuel excise duty and the increased commercial LPG allocations to states, now at 70% of pre-crisis levels. Expressing confidence in the stable situation with sufficient petrol, diesel, and LPG availability, they reiterated their commitment to close collaboration with the Centre.

PM Modi reiterated that overcoming the challenge is a collective responsibility and expressed confidence in India’s ability to navigate the crisis successfully. Notable Chief Ministers in attendance included N. Chandrababu Naidu, Vishnu Deo Sai, A. Revanth Reddy, Yogi Adityanath, Omar Abdullah, Bhagwant Mann, Mohan Yadav, Hemant Soren, Pushkar Singh Dhami, Bhupendra Patel, and Devendra Fadnavis.
