Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Indian wrestlers for their exceptional display at the 2026 U23 Asian Championships in Da Nang, Vietnam. The Men’s Freestyle and Women’s teams emerged victorious, clinching the overall championships with a remarkable total of 27 medals, including eleven gold, seven silver, and nine bronze across different categories.
PM Modi commended the wrestlers’ outstanding performance, highlighting the Men’s Freestyle and Women’s Wrestling teams’ success in securing the Team Titles at the championships. India achieved its highest-ever medal count at the U23 Asian Championships, with the Men’s Freestyle team claiming 9 medals, including 4 golds, and the Women’s team winning 10 medals, including 6 golds.
The Indian men’s freestyle wrestling team excelled at the U23 Asian Wrestling Championships, claiming the Team Championship Trophy with a stellar first-place finish. Dominating the freestyle standings, India outperformed nations like Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan to secure the top spot.
India’s women wrestlers also shone brightly, capturing ten medals at the tournament, including six golds. The Greco-Roman category saw Indian grapplers securing eight medals, with notable performances from various athletes across different weight divisions.
