Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over the tragic cruise boat accident at Bargi Dam in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district, where the death toll has risen to nine with four passengers still missing. PM Modi described the loss of lives as “extremely painful” and offered condolences to the affected families. He also wished a quick recovery for the injured individuals.
In response to the incident, PM Modi announced financial assistance for the victims. He stated that each deceased person’s next of kin would receive Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), while the injured would be provided with Rs 50,000. The local administration is actively supporting those impacted by the tragedy.
Rescue and search operations have been intensified on the ground, with the Indian Army collaborating with civil authorities and disaster response teams to locate the missing passengers. The Army’s Madhya Bharat Area initiated Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations after a request from the district administration.
The submerged cruise vessel remains lodged at a depth of around 20 feet in the Bargi Dam reservoir, posing challenges to underwater visibility and recovery efforts. Despite the difficult conditions, search and rescue operations are ongoing round the clock to locate the missing passengers and aid in recovery operations.
