Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed relief that US President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President J.D. Vance were unharmed after a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. He condemned the incident, emphasizing that violence has no place in a democracy. Trump and other senior US officials were evacuated from the event after multiple gunshots were reported.
In a social media post, PM Modi stated, “Relieved to learn that President Trump, the First Lady, and Vice President are safe and unharmed following the recent security incident in Washington D.C. I extend my best wishes for their continued safety and well-being.” Trump later confirmed on social media that the situation was under control and praised the swift response of security agencies.
Several individuals at the event reported hearing what sounded like five to eight gunshots. The hall, filled with journalists, celebrities, and political leaders, was evacuated, and security was heightened in the area. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from California, was apprehended after attempting to breach a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton.
President Trump described the attacker as “a sick person” and indicated that initial investigations suggested a lone actor. Law enforcement officials revealed that the suspect was armed with multiple weapons and fired several rounds before being subdued. Federal officials have not disclosed a motive yet, with Trump mentioning that more information would surface as the investigation progresses.
