Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati. The project was completed in under a year by Guwahati International Airport Limited, with Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) leading operations. Gautam Adani, Chairman of Adani Group, highlighted the swift delivery of the Guwahati terminal while emphasizing its local identity. The airport development, totaling Rs 5,000 crore, includes Rs 1,000 crore for Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities. The integrated cargo infrastructure aims to boost trade, logistics, and employment in the region. The inauguration signals the rapid progress of India’s aviation infrastructure, with operations set to start by the end of February. The terminal, named “The Bamboo Orchids,” draws inspiration from Assam’s flora and bamboo varieties, incorporating around 140 metric tonnes of locally sourced bamboo. With advanced processing systems and a capacity to handle 13.1 million passengers annually by 2032, the terminal is poised to meet the region’s growing aviation demands.
