Hailing the cooperation between India and the European Union, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that their partnership aims for global welfare. During a joint press meet with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa in New Delhi, PM Modi announced plans to extend trilateral projects from the Indo-Pacific to the Caribbean. These projects will focus on sustainable agriculture, clean energy, and women’s empowerment, aiming to strengthen the IMEC corridor as a vital link in global trade and connectivity.
PM Modi highlighted the significant progress in India-EU relations in recent years, attributing it to shared democratic values, economic synergy, and strong people-to-people connections. He acknowledged the substantial contribution of the Indian community residing in various European countries, numbering over 800,000 individuals actively involved in diverse sectors.
Stressing the strategic importance of security and defense partnerships, PM Modi outlined plans to enhance collaboration with the EU in counter-terrorism, maritime, and cyber security domains. He underscored the need for a rules-based international order and emphasized the growing scope of cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
Furthermore, PM Modi disclosed intentions to establish a new mobility framework between India and the EU, aiming to create fresh opportunities for Indian students, workers, and professionals within the European Union. He also highlighted the recent conclusion of a Free Trade Agreement between India and the EU, marking a significant milestone in bilateral economic relations. This agreement, the largest in India’s history, is set to open doors for Indian farmers and small industries in the European market, foster manufacturing opportunities, and bolster cooperation in the services sector.
