Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the ‘Somnath Amrut Mahotsav’ celebrations in Gujarat, connected India’s 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests to the country’s spiritual heritage. He highlighted the significance of the Pokhran tests coinciding with the Somnath festivities. PM Modi praised the scientists for showcasing India’s strength globally through the nuclear tests conducted under Pokhran-II.
The Prime Minister emphasized the firm political will of India under Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s leadership during the nuclear tests. Despite intense international pressure, India proceeded with additional detonations two days later. PM Modi underscored the government’s commitment to prioritizing the nation’s interests above external pressures.
Referring to the nuclear tests as “Operation Shakti,” PM Modi drew a parallel between the worship of Shakti and Shiva in Indian tradition. He highlighted the interconnectedness of Shiva and Shakti, symbolizing strength and completeness. The Prime Minister also linked this philosophy to India’s scientific and technological progress, urging it to inspire further advancements.
PM Modi extended congratulations to the citizens on the anniversary of Operation Shakti, hailing the tests as a testament to India’s resolve and strategic independence. He participated in various ceremonies at the Somnath Temple, including the Kumbhabhishek ritual and an aerial display by the Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team.
