Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in Oslo, Norway, discussing opportunities to enhance bilateral relations. PM Modi expressed pleasure in meeting PM Orpo, highlighting the significant engagements between India and Finland this year. The leaders explored collaboration in futuristic sectors such as 6G, AI, education, and nuclear energy, aiming to strengthen ties in areas like climate change and sustainable development.
The meeting also saw the announcement of India and Finland co-hosting the World Circular Economic Forum in September 2026 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Both leaders stressed the need to enhance cooperation among industry, research institutions, and academia, emphasizing the role of sustainability and digitalization in driving economic growth. They reviewed current cooperation in trade, investment, digitalization, AI, quantum technologies, space, renewable energy, and more, aiming to double bilateral trade by 2030.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the positive contributions of Indian professionals to Finland’s technology sector, underscoring the warm and multi-faceted relations between the two countries. India and Finland share common democratic values, with Finland being an important partner for India in the European Union and the Nordic region. The leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress of the India-EU Strategic Partnership and stressed the early implementation of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement.
