Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vietnamese President To Lam met at Hyderabad House in New Delhi for discussions covering various aspects of their bilateral relations, as well as regional and global issues. Earlier in the day, President To Lam received a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he was greeted by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi. Children in traditional attire, holding the Vietnamese and Indian flags, also welcomed the visiting leader.
In a gesture of respect, President To Lam paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. The Ministry of External Affairs shared a post stating that the principles of Mahatma Gandhi continue to inspire the relations between India and Vietnam. President To Lam’s visit to India is aimed at strengthening the existing bilateral ties between the two nations.
During his visit, President To Lam is scheduled to visit Mumbai, where he will engage in various activities including visiting the National Stock Exchange, meeting with the Maharashtra Chief Minister and Governor, and participating in a business forum. The visit is significant as it coincides with the 10th anniversary of the elevation of relations between India and Vietnam to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which was agreed upon during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Vietnam in 2016.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval also met with President To Lam to discuss enhancing the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and Vietnam. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that President To Lam’s visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to the robust bilateral relations and create new avenues for cooperation between the two countries.
