Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the Indian U20 athletics team for their impressive performance at the U20 Athletics Championships, securing a total of 19 medals, including 10 gold. The team’s success on the final day, where they added three gold medals, helped them clinch the second position overall with a tally of 19 medals, comprising 10 gold, five silver, and four bronze.
PM Modi congratulated the Indian contingent for their exceptional achievement at the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships, highlighting the determination and excellence displayed by the young athletes. While this performance was remarkable, it fell short of India’s best-ever showing at the 2024 edition in Dubai, where the team secured 29 medals, including seven gold, 11 silver, and 11 bronze.
The final day saw remarkable victories for the Indian team, with Muskan winning the women’s 5000m event, Nishchay setting a national U20 record in the men’s discus throw, and Mogali Venkatram Reddy clinching gold in the men’s 800m race. Additionally, Neeru Pathak played a crucial role in securing gold for the Indian 4x400m women’s relay team.
The Indian 4x400m women’s relay team, comprising Bhumika Sanjay Nehate, Tahura Khatun, Sehnoor Bawa, and Neeru Pathak, set a new meet record with a timing of 3:38.07 seconds, surpassing the previous record set by Japan in 2018. Similarly, the Indian men’s 4x400m relay team also broke the meet record but finished third overall. The women’s 4x100m relay team secured a silver medal with a timing of 45.05 seconds.
