Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme, commended India’s dairy sector for its advancements internationally. He expressed confidence that India’s diverse flavors and quality would offer a unique experience worldwide, strengthening global ties with India. PM Modi highlighted the success of two Indian cheese brands that received accolades at an international competition in Brazil, sparking discussions on social media about India’s cheese diversity.
A significant transformation is underway in India’s dairy industry, with value addition giving traditional flavors a fresh identity. Indian cheese is now gaining recognition globally, with its flavors finding a place on tables worldwide for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. PM Modi showcased various unique Indian cheeses, such as Kalari cheese from Jammu and Kashmir, known as the “Mozzarella of Kashmir,” prepared by the Gujjar-Bakarwal community for generations.
He also mentioned “Chhurpi,” a cheese made from yak milk in Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Ladakh, reflecting the mountains’ simplicity and softness in its taste. Additionally, he highlighted “Topli Nu Paneer,” or “Surti Cheese,” originating from Maharashtra and Gujarat. The Prime Minister emphasized the vast array of flavors in India’s cheese tradition, noting the sector’s growth with Indian companies investing, modern technology emerging, and products meeting global standards.
As Indian cheese transcends borders to reach international markets and restaurants, PM Modi sees it as a prime example of moving from local to global. He believes that India’s taste, tradition, and quality will introduce a fresh culinary experience to global audiences, fostering a stronger connection with India.
