Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a phone call from Mauritius PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam to discuss the progress in their countries’ cooperation before their meeting at the upcoming AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. PM Modi expressed happiness over the call, mentioning the significant cooperation between India and Mauritius since their previous meeting in Varanasi.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the special ties between the two nations, focusing on achieving shared objectives for peace and stability in the Indian Ocean Region. India and Mauritius, with a deep-rooted relationship based on historical and cultural connections, continue to collaborate closely as key partners in the Global South.
Following PM Modi’s visit to Mauritius in March 2025 and Ramgoolam’s State Visit to India in September 2025, the leaders held talks in Varanasi to enhance their strategic partnership and explore new opportunities for collaboration across various sectors. During the discussions, PM Modi announced a Special Economic Package to support Mauritius in infrastructure development, job creation, and healthcare enhancement.
PM Modi highlighted India’s support for projects in Mauritius, including the establishment of the first Jan Aushadhi Kendra outside India and the construction of healthcare and infrastructure facilities. The leaders also emphasized partnerships in education and innovation, with agreements signed between Indian institutes and the University of Mauritius to further research and education collaboration.
Welcoming the Mauritian leader to Varanasi, PM Modi emphasized the deep cultural ties between India and Mauritius, describing the relationship as not just a partnership but a family bond. He reiterated the importance of Mauritius in India’s Neighbourhood First policy and Vision Mahasagar, underscoring the Enhanced Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
